Episode Guide

Episode 1: This is Indian Land

The first video in our new series will explore an act of rebellion that dates back almost 50 years. Under the cover of night, a group of teens sent a strong message to anyone passing through Garden River, writing “This is Indian Land” in large capital letters across a railway bridge.

For 47 years, their identities were kept secret, but their powerful words would spark a vital conversation about Ontario’s identity and the need for reconciliation. This fall, we’ll shed light on this bold act that sent ripples throughout the country.

More fascinating stories are coming about arts and culture happening outside of traditional institutions in Ontario. Donate now to make this episode possible.

Why This Series Matters

“Illustration of a person playing an acoustic guitar against a purple background with three spotlights behind them.

Art being so much greater than ourselves, it will not give up once it has taken hold.”

— Emily Carr

Illustration of a person standing on a ladder and spray painting a brick wall a mural of a larger hand spray abstractly painting colour on the same brick wall.

As an art school graduate, I’ve seen how creativity shapes how we think, learn, and connect. Supporting this work ensures Ontario’s artists and stories are seen, valued, and shared.”

— Pary Bell, CEO

This series is a vital opportunity to preserve and celebrate Ontario's overlooked art history, capturing untold stories and building a lasting archive that reflects the province's cultural identity.”

— Katie O’Connor,  Managing Editor, The Rundown
